It's all gone a bit 50's ski lodge...

Well I don't know about you guys but here in East Yorkshire it's turned more than a bit chilly and miserable... But as luck would have it, I had the foresight to order a rather fab and cosy jumper.

I fell in love with this jumper when I saw it, as it had a whiff of vintage about it, I had visions of sitting round a log fire, with rosy cheeks, drinking mulled wine whilst laughing with gay abandon. The reality is, I hate mulled wine, have a gas fire and am more likely to be found watching telly with a cuppa.

The jumper itself is Joe Browns, a brand which will normally divide most people, a bit of a marmite brand shall we say, and I for the most part was on the hate side, it really is not my kind of clothing, far to fussy, frilly and flowery for me. But this little beauty has definitely made me think twice about the brand! In terms of sizing I went for the 20/22 and found it more than generous. The length is a bit funny it's a bit inbetweeny, so some of you might not feel comfortable wearing it with leggings, but as long as I have a good quality, thick pair on I don't mind so much.

Oh dear, am going to have to sort better lighting if this crappy weather continues!!

I teamed it with trusty leggings and some awesome Chelsea boots that the lovely folks at Evans sent for me to try out. I've had them for over a month now and have been wearing them a fair bit, they are so comfy and look great. I love the brogue detailing and the classic elasticated sides and as part of the flexisoles range they are really comfortable. I can see me wearing these over and over throughout Autumn and Winter, they're just so cute!

I'm growing my hair out at the moment so I opted for a quiff and leopard print headscarf, and just because I'm incredibly anal I put on matching socks!

Have you been converted by any brands? Or do first impressions last?

So, you all know I like to have the occasional rant, and I think I'm well overdue one, so here goes.....

Oooops wrong George....

 

Over the last few months, following the George at Asda twitter and Facebook accounts I've noticed some mighty fine bits of clothing pop up. Excited by the fast fashion and low price, I've hot footed it over to the website only to be disappointed that the sizing stops at a 20.

Now this isn't the G21 range I'm talking about which we all know, very sadly stops at a 20, but just the regular old main range, which at one point used to run to a 24 the whole range through, there was a point Asda also had a plus range right through to a 28, but let's not drag up those memories eh?

Disappointed by the reduced size range I questioned the twitter crew, I was told that some of the ranges only ran to a 20 and that the top end of the sizing always sells out.... Oh wait.... Surely there's a message in there for you somewhere Mr Asda? A big FAT glaring message?

Then, last week a beautious dress appeared in my twitter feed, a sexy shirt dress, great autumnal colours, featured in some great editorials.... So off I went to the website to find, no surprises, it only ran to a 20.... So I *might* have written in my haste and anger a bit of ranty email... Yes I've become one of *those* people. I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself.... You want to see it don't you?

Hello there, 

I am writing to you today regarding your PR and George range. First off I'd like to say I love the George line, I spend a lot of my hard earned cash on your range, but of late I've found it increasingly difficult to do so. 

As a size 22/24 I've found that if the 22/24's haven't sold out instantly it would now seem that an increasing amount of your regular range only runs to a 20 now. I have to say I find this incredibly disappointing. I wondered if there was any reason behind this dramatic reduction in sizing range?

When I recently conversed with your twitter team regarding this, they were quick to dismiss my claims stating that the whole regular range (excluding g21 obviously) did run to a 24, but we both know this is not true. 

In regards to blogger relations Asda are yet to get a good grasp on this vital area of PR, they very rarely RT any blogs that feature their clothing especially those from plus size bloggers, if I didn't know any better I'd say Asda had something against fat people (surely not?!) where as your main rival Tesco are currently working very closely with the plus size community to develop their ranges and are going out of their way to forge fantastic relationships. 

 I can only hope that Asda will take note of this great example and follow suit, because we'd sure like to continue spending our cash with you, but with limited sizing and poor communication, I fear we will take our business elsewhere. I for one, most definitely will.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about the sizes in our George range. I'm sorry there hasn't been as much choice available in your size. I can certainly understand how frustrating this must be for you, especially when you love the range. 

 After speaking with our Buying Team they've advised that we do have sizes up to a 24 in selected ranges. They have said they'll keep your feedback in mind for when they come to review the range. Once again thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Hello all! Hope you're all super and well. Enjoying the Bank Holiday Brits? well firstly you may have noticed its Sunday and there's no Five Take. Well we've decided to take a break, a couple of the ladies lives are pretty crazy (in a good way, new jobs, locations etc)at the moment, so we thought it was best to have a wee break and resurrect at a later date. So I thought for this Sunday at least I would do a little catch up post.

On Thursday night I had a dream that my best friend who is pregnant had her baby, so on Friday I text her to see if she was OK, she said she felt weird, but no contractions as of yet, well later that day she went into labour and had a beautiful baby boy at 5.27am, Saturday morning. Neither me or my husband have brothers or sisters, so this is as close as I'm going to get to being an Aunty, I'm so excited and can't wait to head back to my old home town and visit them next weekend! So, well done Sara and Wayne on the arrival of baby Kobi! One very excited Aunty over here!!

I was also really chuffed to be named blogger of the month by the lovely folk at Simply Be this month! There's an interview with me too, so if you're interested head on over and check it out (I'm not a terribly interesting person though, so don't get too excited!)


 

So that's been the highlights of my week really, today I've been being MrBeBe with his current project. Some of you might know from twitter and instagram that my lovely husband is an illustrator in his spare time (we're oping it will be all the time one day) and he's just written his first comic. Well next week he takes his comic and associated merchandise to Norcon a comic convention in the oh so glamorous location of Norwich (so Norwich folk) he's also heading to Thought Bubble in Leeds in November so we're prepping everything at the moment...

Clements Ribeiro for Evans AW 2012

Evening folks, I hope I find you well? Yesterday Evans held a blogger preview afternoon for the new Clements Ribeiro unfortunately Toni and I had a meeting in Leeds that afternoon so we couldn't make it, but Evans sent me over some of the images for me to have a look at, so I thought I'd share them with you! If you'd like to see some of the pieces modelled by the fabulous bloggers who did attend you can check them out on the Evans Facebook page.

Just a quick bit of background.... you might remember back in March I went down to London for the preview of the first collection Clements Ribeiro did for Evans, I had a great day and personally really enjoyed their first offering. It wasn't to everyones taste, the vintage prints and tailored shapes came across as old fashioned to some, but for me I loved its bright colours and vibrant prints.

The design duo themselves are a well established design duo who have been around since the 90's famed for their eclectic mix of prints and material used in unexpected and innovative ways.

The AW is a much ,ore subdued affair than the SS collection understandably, most AW collections are to be fair. Inacio Ribeiro himself, comments on the injection of lace into the collection with pieces inspired by the dresses they designed for Adele.

The stand out pieces of the collection for me are the stunning party dresses...

Over all I found the collection a bit of a mixed bag, I found some of the pieces a little old fashioned, in that fact that I'm not young enough to make them look cool "granny chic" but I'm not old enough to make them look age appropriate if you catch my drift?!

The dresses are stunning, I'd be so happy to wear any of them over the festive season, the Black lace dress with collar detail really is one the most gorgeous dresses I've seen and if the fit of the dresses from the last collection are anything to go by, it will be gorgeous on.

So what do you think of the collection, is it your cup of tea or has it missed the mark? 

Who would be your dream designer collaboration? 

I guess for me at a time when the high street is saturated with "celebrity" collaborations I find it so refreshing when a brand works with real designers and puts out quality collections.

Swimwear Challenge: Elomi

I guess for the last one, I'm personally tackling the last frontier in fat blogging. The "fatkini" as it's been affectionately nicknamed hit the headlines a couple of months back when a few popular plus size bloggers decided showcase their fabulous selves in fabulous bikinis, it was, of course met with some criticism, much interest and started somewhat of a revolution. Chunky birds across the globe where posting pics of themselves in swimwear left right and centre.

So, I guess, here's my contribution, me in said "fatkini" in a rather less glamorous location than a lot of these girls!

I'm wearing the beautiful Elomi Isis high waisted bikini in Aubergine.

The lovely folk at Elomi were also kind enough to send me the Madeira takini top which goes beautifully with the bikini.

What did I think?

Appearance - Plain and simple this Bikini is a stunning colour that looks great on. The tankini top is beautiful on. I was sure when I took it out of the packet, I thought the print might be a little mature, but when its on I think it looks great. 4/5


Fit - In hindsight I should have got a bigger cup size, but this was ordered before I had a boob tutorial with the lovely Caroline at Curvy Wordy. The briefs fit well overall but as with all high waist briefs on my body including control wear, they roll down on me, I don't know what it is they just do, so this is not a reflection on the garment itself, just my awkward body!The Tankini fit was great, although there was plenty of room, so if you prefer a snugger fit, size down on this one. 4/5

Comfort - The whole ensemble was comfortable over all apart from the slight roll issue 3/5

Performance - I haven't taken this swimming yet, and I do envisage it more as a holiday kinda ensemble. The bikini would be great for lounging, then I'd pop the Tankini over the top for swimming and as a cover up. The material itself is durable and of a high quality, and after a few star jumps and lunges, I still felt pretty secure  3/5

Value - The Bra and brief are priced individually at £38 each and the Tankini top was originally priced at £66 but is now £33. Lets be honest, it's not cheap and would be out of a lot of peoples price range. But what we have to remember is this is specialist swimwear. The style itself is a rarity in plus size and you are ordering the bra itself to fit your cup size and back size specifically. There's no denying the quality is beautiful and I think this would last a long time. But for me personally to pay nearly £80 for a bikini....? I just couldn't justify it. 2/5

I think my favourite from the whole challenge was the Evans Pindot suit, I just loved the polka dots, the fit and support it gave me, and I know from chatting on twitter that a few of you loved it too, and its one of my top search terms on the blog, so people are still looking for that suit! 
I've had a blast doing this challenge and I hope its maybe pointed you in the direction of a style you like or a retailer you might not have thought to visit. I wish we could have done more, but its tough getting people on board. Maybe next year hey?

Coverage -  The coverage was great, well as great as it can be in a bikini, but with the added Tankini it was excellent 5/5

Overall I really did love this suit, I of course love the statement it makes, the 2 fingers up to society who would have you think chunky birds shouldn't be seen in anything but a muu muu, its bold colour and sleek lines.

Hey everyone, hope your day has been ok. Mine unfortunately was a repeat of yesterday, got all dressed up, but couldn't muster up, whatever I needed to muster up to go out. Got teary and panicky and spent the day at home instead. Which frankly sucks big ones, but I am definitely going out tomorrow because I have a meeting in Leeds, my folks are coming to pick me up and drive me there, so I know I'll be ok! (yes I'm 32, yes it's a bit pathetitic but hey, depression doesn't have a particular demographic it just shits on anyone it wants!)

It was a tad windy outside today, check out the do! The outfit itself is a bit of a Pinterest rip off, I saw a similar outfit on a girl on there except hers was a leopard shirt with a coral cardi, so I used existing items in my wardrobe to recreate the look. As I've mentioned before most of the outfits on Pinterest won't be setting the fashion world alight any time soon, but I love to while away a few hours looking over the outfit combos and thinking how I can do it with my existing wardrobe.

Hmmm, weird day. How was yours? I was going to take Poppy out just for a cup of tea and a Krispy Kreme in Hull, but when it came to leaving the house I had a massive panic attack and had to stay in. Not great, but I'm trying to look at the positive in the fact that I actually got showered and ready and thought about leaving the house! See, look for the positive is my new motto!!

Five Take: Shorts

Hello! Hope you've all had a fab weekend, I've had a lovely weekend myself, spending time with friends and family. This absolutely needs to happen more often, it definitely soothes me and lifts my mood!

So, this weeks Five Take... I'm powering on although I was alone last week in my efforts (sob, sob ha!) This week we're tackling shorts. I must say I'm not a huge shorts fan, I always find they ride up a bit, hungry bum syndrome.... Err yeh, I just said that.

I did however buy these denim shorts the other month, I couldn't resist. I'd wanted some for ages, so I just went for it. Personally I'd never wear them without tights because I just can't bear the thought of the world seeing my bum cheeks! (oh god I can't stop saying bum today)

Who likes short shorts.....

I wore my New Look shorts with the Clements Ribeiro for Evans Diana Top and We Love Colors turquoise tights.... A moment please for the tights...ummm amazing!!

I've heard everyone raving about We Love Colors and was hoping I might get a chance to bag myself some at Plus North, but we handed all the samples out to our lovely guests and kind of forgot to bag a pair! But thank you to the gorgeous Caroline at Curvy Wordy who sent me a couple of her pairs I've finally got to try them and man, they rock! I wore the C/D size on my 52 inch hips. The fit was amazing, the material supersoft and appearance, pretty damn cool! I can't wait to stock up on them for Autumn/Winter.

This is a very bright outfit for me, but I'm loving the combo of the purple and turquoise, I appear to have lost my footwear at some point but I just teamed it with some simple ballet flats...

Nice to tweet you, nice to meet you!

It's always nice to meet twitter friends in real life and put a face to the name. On Monday I had the pleasure of meeting Chika from Plus My Size. She drove all the way from Manchester, I'd like to say exclusively to meet up with me, but, alas, I think the bright lights of Hull were calling..... HULL I hear you cry?

Well ladies let me tell you it's a plus size shoppers dream. The are 3 New Looks each with a generous Inspire range, one of which is exclusively clearance only, bargainariffic! The H&M stocks the plus range, there are 2 Evans, a Yours and all 3 Dorothy Perkins always have plenty of 22's in stock. As if that wasn't enough, on the outskirts of the city there is a clearance shop called the X-Catalgue store who stock lots of ex JD Williams stock, from Simply Be to Marisota. The day before I'd been myself and picked up this lush RubyRocks dress for the bargain price of £6.99 - granted its a size 28, but because of the elastic aged waist and cross over style I think I got away with it!

I actually wore this to meet Chika, we had a great couple of hours looking round the shops and even stopped for lunch. I've been struggling to get out of the house of late, but when I have someone to meet or a purpose I find it a bit easier to get out. So thanks Chika, it was a blast!

Groovy moves and pretty toes...

Happy Monday folks, has it been as bad as you thought? I had the pleasure of meeting Chika today from Plus My Size. It's always great to meet up with tweeters and put a face to the name. I'll blog my outfit and what we got up to tomorrow probably, but in the mean time I thought I'd do a catch up post. My apologies in advance, it's a bit lengthy, please feel free to scan read and look at the pictures... come on you know you do it, don't say you don't!

I was so busy over the weekend, which is most unlike me, I thought it necessary to do a little "what I did" post.

So I arrived in my home town of Grimsby on Thursday (oh the glamour, I know) The reason I had to head home this weekend is because my best friend Sara is due to give birth any day now, so I said I would cover some gigs for her whilst she's waiting to pop!

We had a quick band practice on the evening, which went ok, to be completely honest I'm a bit out of practice and my vocals and memory aren't the best! I'm getting old kids! 

On the Friday I decided to treat myself to a pedicure, I haven't had one since December last year and my poor tootsies were looking more than a tad neglected. The lovely Debbie who has been mine and my mums beautician for about 10 years very kindly squeezed me in and popped round to sort me out. I went for a dark teal shade on my toes, it was an OPI, didn't ask what it was called though! Answers on a postcard please!...

Guess the OPI shade.... No prizes though... OK maybe a booby flash

So what did I do in the afternoon? Well of course what everybody does when they've just had a pedicure, go in the public paddling pool with my daughter!!!!

Yes Folks, this is Sunny Cleethorpes, not the Med.

I was completely unprepared for going in the paddling pool, we didn't realise how busy it would be so I had to go in and supervise Poppy and I got completely drenched in the process, I spent the car ride home on a towel, but it was really good fun and Poppy absolutely loved it. Note to self - take swimming cossy to paddling pool.

So after my days adventures I headed off to my first gig of the weekend, they were both weddings and both very different. For the first night I wore my Chesca jumpsuit for the gig, didn't get any pics but it wore it near enough the same as in my blog post here...

I didn't get in until 1am but was up at 7.30 the next day as the joys of parenthood messes with your body clock!

My first stop of the day was the tattooist, I'd been hankering for some more ink for quite some time, when I happened upon this design and variations of it, I decided it should be my next one. I've got a really great guy who's brilliant but cheap as chips, he did mine for £20.

I'm really pleased with the results, a reminder to myself to spread my wings and fly.

I also managed to squeeze in a little trip to Asda. I'd spotted the amazing "lip dress" online last week, so I had to go and try it on, for educational purposes of course!!

Because this dress is from the G21 range it only goes up to a size 20 *sad fat bird face* note to Asda - make stuff bigger please. This particular dress is viscose, it has no stretch at all to it, but because of the cut I manage to just about squeeze my size 22 body into it. It wasn't particularly comfortable and although I love it, I just couldn't see me getting much wear out of it. I did however get this bad boy, which is, let's face it, equally as impractical but I couldn't resist....

Right, after all that shopping I sloped off to my second gig of the weekend, which was crazy, we played the gig outside in the courtyard of this big stately home thing, the wedding party were complete ravers, did not stop dancing all night, so after the initial shock of playing outside and freezing my nips off I actually had a good night. I got Stu the bass player to take a pic of my outfit for the night. Cheers Stu.

Five Take: Midi Skirt

Hello! It's Sunday, it's Five Take time again. I have had a major busy weekend which I'll post about later, but for now lets talk Five Take! So a quick heads up for new readers - myself a 4 other gorgeous bloggers take a different theme, item, trend etc each week and do our own "take" on it.

This week we're talking Midi Skirts. I quite like the midi trend. I'm not a huge gam of my knees, but think my ankles are pretty rocking, so midi suits me just fine! I have a few midi tube skirts that I adore but I haven't really tried a flowing style before.

The skirt I chose for this weeks challenge was one of my many eBay acquisitions, it's originally George at Asda (quite some time ago by the look of the label) I'm complete sucker for stripes and I wanted to add a pleased skirt to my wardrobe so this fitted the bill perfectly.

I just simply teamed it with a navy vest and tan accessories (my favourite way to accessorise!)

Hello!

Hope you're all well? I'm just about over my tummy bug, but now Poppy has it, so I have a poorly baby to contend with. It's all doom and gloom of late isn't it?

So any way, on a cheerier note, I have a couple of gigs at the weekend. My best friend is pretty much ready to drop with her first baby so I said I would fill in for her with one of the bands she sings in.

I decided to try one of my possible outfits on today, just to see if I liked it on. This was one of my Plus North choices, but unfortunately when I tried it on on the day it was just too short for me personally to wear without tights and it was just too hot that day to wear tights so sadly I couldn't wear it, but the lovely Charlotte at Simply Be very kindly let me keep it.

High-Low Hem Dress - Simply Be

This is the one of the few hi-lo items in my wardrobe, I really loved the trend but I just didn't find many pieces I felt confident in. This is such a pretty dress though, I love the colour and it's floaty nature. I'm a little unsure as to whether its too girly for me. Ever since I had my hair cut short anything that's floaty or swishy just hasn't felt right... Weird huh?

So what do you guys think , is it a Yay or a Nay?

Five Take: LBD

LBD - Little Black Dress, the staple of every girls wardrobe, for me it's a fail safe, classic sexy look. Easy to wear, but creates maximum effect.

The truth is though I'm actually going to cheat a little bit this week, I've had a really bad tummy bug and when I tried to take some pics last night I realised how ghastly I actually looked, so I decided to not put you all through the horror of seeing my pale, pain ridden face! Ha!

So I've decided to go back through the archives and show you my LBD's both of which I trott out for special occasions, and because of their simplicity I can style them to look different every time.

The first of them is my knee length fitted Joanna Hope dress, I love this dresses classic, sexy look. I've worn this several times the first of which was for Plus London Two, and I actually blogged it for Five Take, you can read the full post here...

The second is my teeny tiny Grazia lace dress, it's very short and I have to be so careful when I bend down but I love the scalloped detailing to the arms and hem. I always roll this one out for party nights, despite it's shortness it's got loads of movement to it, so it's great for dancing the night away! I wore it on a night out just before Christmas last year, you can read the post here...
